Getting to Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Foot
Scottish Gas Murrayfield is approximately a 45-minute walk from Edinburgh city centre e.g. (Waverely Station). From Princes Street head onto Shandwick Place (A8) which leads on to Atholl Place, then onto Haymarket Terrace. Continue on the A8 until Roseburn Street and turn left (at the Roseburn Bar). There are a range of shops, bars and restaurants along the route, including the Murrayfield Bar, just past Roseburn Street which is also popular with rugby fans.
Please note, the walking route post-match may change due to crowd control measures.
After the match: Pedestrian Management around Haymarket
To ensure pedestrian safety and to minimise traffic disruption, pedestrian movement will be safely managed around the Haymarket area following the match.
Those heading back into the city centre or Haymarket Station may experience delays due to the width available for the number of supporters heading along this corridor. Alternative routes back to the city centre are available via Magdala Crescent, Coates Gardens or Rosebery Crescent. Access into Haymarket Station will be managed across the tram tracks. Trams will still be running so please be patient and take advice from the stewards and Police who are there to ensure your safety.
Unlike previous fixtures there will be NO route back to the city centre/Haymarket Station via Balbirnie Place/Haymarket Yards. Pedestrians heading along Russell Road will be directed to Dalry Road as an alternative route back to the City Centre. Please note that these diversions will not add any significant length onto your route and will have no affect to your journey times as delays to pedestrian movement will be reduced. Please note these measures are introduced for your own safety and the safety of other road users. Further assistance and instruction will be given to those patrons travelling by rail as they near Haymarket Station.

Situated at the west end of the city-centre, Haymarket Station serves the west of Scotland, Fife and the north. It is a 20/30-minute walk to Scottish Gas Murrayfield, or one stop on the tram.
Get live train info via the @ScotRail Twitter feed, or text ‘ScotRail’ to 86688 to download the app. Here are ScotRail’s top five tips for taking the train to Scotland’s big games:
- Buy your ticket before you board. You’ll need a valid ticket for travel and checks will be in place at many stations – including Haymarket.
- Check your train times. Remember to leave plenty of time to catch any connecting services that you need.
- Listen up! We’ll have extra staff on the ground to help things go smoothly. To help them help you, please listen to their instructions.
- Download the ScotRail app. You can use it to buy tickets, check train times, and see live service information.
- Don’t leave it too late – there will be queuing systems at key stations before and after the game. Services will be busy, and you might not be able to board your first choice of train.
Travelling to Dunbar, North Berwick or the Borders after the game?
Trains to/from these areas start/terminate at Edinburgh Waverley, and so don’t stop at Haymarket Station. As the closest station to Scottish Gas Murrayfield, Haymarket Station will be very busy after the match and so you may find it easier to go straight to Waverley Station (by bus, tram, taxi or on foot) rather than trying changing trains.
